6 Black content creators that you need on your radar

Neve Fear-Smith

The theme of this year’s Black History Month is ‘Saluting Our Sisters’, a conversation starter that aims to pay homage to Black women who had contributions ignored, ideas appropriated, and voices silenced.

In the spirit of recognition, we want to highlight some of the extraordinary Black content creators, including some amazing trailblazing women, who are carving out their place in the influencer marketing space and shaping the creator economy.

These talented individuals are not only influencers, they are thought leaders, artists, and innovators who inspire us and their audiences daily with their creativity, resilience, and originality. Their contribution to the industry allows us to celebrate a more diverse and representative digital landscape.

Fatima Timbo - @fatstimbo

Fatima or ‘Fats’ Timbo is a British TikTok sensation known for her comedy, dance, and lip-syncing videos. She also speaks openly about her achondroplasia and her African heritage.

Since posting her first TikTok video in 2020, she has gained 2.5M followers on the platform and has had the opportunity to work with global brands such as Benefit, Missguided, and Boohoo.
As well as being popular with her followers online, Fats has appeared on mainstream British television shows including BBC Laugh Lessons and Celebrity Gogglebox.

ChrisSoFly - @chrissofly22

Chris is a true creative at the core. As well as sharing his art and day-to-day life online, he aims to inspire other black and queer people to embark on a journey of self-love and has coined the phrase “boys can be princesses too” as a term of empowerment.

Chris has 24.2K followers on Instagram, and 80.3K on TikTok, and has had the opportunity to work with some incredible brands such as Rimmel and Cover Girl.

Tasha Bailey - @realtalk.therapist

Tasha is not just a social media creator, she is a trained psychotherapist specializing in trauma, self-love, and creativity in therapy. She speaks to her audience across TikTok and Instagram providing tips for nourishing your mental health, and she expands on this further in her recently released book ‘Real Talk’.
Recognized for her excellent contribution to the creator economy, Tasha won ‘Health and Wellbeing Creator of the Tear’ at the bCreator (formerly Blogoshere) awards in 2022!

Tasha will be joining us as a panelist on our webinar on Thursday ‘Mindful Creation: Nurturing Your Mental Health as an Online Content Creator. If you haven’t signed up yet, do it now!

Zach Campell - @zachcampbell

Zach creates content across YouTube, TikTok, and Instagram, and since he started out in 2013, he has gained widespread popularity for his reaction videos, pop culture commentary, and collaborations with A-list celebrities including Lil Nas X and Doja Cat.

Digital Voices worked with Zach as a part of our partnership with Taimi, a social networking and dating app that caters to LGBTQI+ people, as we recognized Zach as a prominent figure amongst the black and queer communities.

Zach has expanded his talents outside of his social media feed, and now hosts his own podcast called ‘Tired Ass Podcast’, and has released his own pop music, branching out further into his passion for all things music and pop culture.

Monet McMichael - @monetmcmichael

Monet started out on YouTube in 2012 but really came into the spotlight with the rise of TikTok. She now has over 3.6M followers on the platform, and her success led her to secure a spot on this year’s Forbes Top Creators!

Her chatty and friendly approach to beauty and makeup videos is what got her audience hooked, and now, through her honest and casual day-in-the-life videos, her followers are connecting with her on a new level.

In our new and exciting campaign with US food delivery servicelocal commerce platform DoorDash, we partnered with Monet who produced TikTok content for National Quesadilla Day. The content she produced felt just like being on FaceTime with your best friend, and will certainly leave you craving Mexican food!

Gabriel Sey - @gabriel_sey

Gabriel, also known as the Active Black Dad, shares candid content across Instagram, YouTube, and TikTok. He started out on YouTube 11 years ago primarily posting fitness content, but as his life has evolved, his content has evolved too.

Gabriel still regularly posts about fitness, but he now also shares more about his experience of being a dad and a husband, and how he is always striving to be his best self. He aims to inspire his audience to adopt a similar positive mindset to his by sharing tips and tricks while remaining candid about the fact that the journey to having a healthy body and healthy mind isn’t always linear.

These creators, among many others, have contributed to shaping digital culture across the globe. Their voices and perspectives resonate with audiences, providing valuable opportunities for brands to engage with diverse communities throughout the year, not just during Black History Month.

We want to encourage brands to diversify the creators they work with, adding extra value to your campaigns. If you’re interested in learning more about how you can do this, reach out to us at hello@digitalvoices.com
